Our approach
A drug-device combination therapy that delivers locally, avoids systemic side effects, and aims to see a seizure coming.
Local delivery, not systemic dosing
Neurolink has developed a drug-device combination therapy for the treatment of epilepsy. The Neurolink therapy delivers a powerful pharmacologic agent to the brain in small quantities through the implanted device.
Local drug delivery eliminates systemic side effects such as sedation, and dramatically reduces — and potentially eliminates — seizures in certain patients. The Neurolink therapy also does not cause sedation.
Sensing
Treating a seizure before it happens
With Neurolink’s sensing technology, the company intends to be able to track a patient’s seizure history and develop predictive algorithms to anticipate the onset of a seizure and treat it before it happens.
That is the ambition stated on the company’s own page. It is a research programme, not a shipped feature.
Where it stands
Neurolink’s approach is unlike any other treatment available today, and the company believes there is potential for much higher efficacy rates without the undesirable side effects experienced with current therapies. The company is actively developing the technology and is conducting pre-clinical studies.
Three claims, in the company’s words
Local
Small quantities of a pharmacologic agent delivered to the brain through the implanted device.
No sedation
Local delivery eliminates systemic side effects such as sedation — and the therapy does not cause sedation.
Predictive
Sensing and predictive algorithms intended to anticipate onset and treat before the seizure happens.
